Scotland County Healthy Carolinians is a county-wide coalition
dedicated to the mission of empowering the citizens through
education and promotion of healthy lifestyles and safe communities.
Our focus areas are physical activity and nutrition, chronic
disease, and environmental health. These focus areas, our
subcommittees, meet regularly and are open to the public.
As a county-wide coalition, we are always interested in
recruiting new membership and receiving input regarding getting
the community to adapt healthy lifestyles. Some of our recent
programs/interventions are the Great Ex-STEP-tations Walking
Program, a pilot Weight Loss Support Program, and distribution
of a diabetes health checklist. We were instrumental in developing
the Well Ordinance Rules and Regulations, and in promoting
educational efforts for mosquito control policies and procedures.
We established the fitness trail around Scotland Place and
have been co-sponsors of several health screenings in the
community. We are a voice for promoting healthy lifestyles
and an environmentally safe community.
Scotland County Healthy Carolinians is supported through a
Kate B. Reynolds grant, collaboration with local organizations,
and through in-kind service from the community. For more information
contact Kathie Cox, Program Coordinator at the Scotland
County Health Department.
