The goal of the Communicable Disease program is to prevent
and eliminate the transmission of diseases. This can be accomplished
by using appropriate measures such as good handwashing techniques,
immunizations, and antibiotic therapy. Nurses working in
communicable disease are responsible for investigating and
completing surveillance on communicable diseases as mandated
by law to be reported to the local health department as outlined
in North Carolina General Statute 130A-133-140. Investigations
may include interviewing infected individuals and treating
contacts as necessary.
