The Child Health Program is dedicated to improving the health
and well-being of the children of Scotland County. The goal
is to prevent mortality and morbidity among children and
youth by providing education,
and other preventative efforts to reduce the incidence of
communicable diseases and other conditions. Health
services include Postpartum/ Newborn Visiting, Orthopedic
Clinic, WIC, Lead Screening, and Immunizations. The program participates in various community
and outreach activities.
Postpartum/ Newborn Home Visiting has shown to help reduce
infant mortality and improve the health of new mothers and
infants. This service is provided within days after hospital
discharge and includes postpartum assessment of the mother and
newborn, with collaboration and follow-up to their
medical providers.
School Health initiatives are planned yearly in conjunction
with the school system providing education, collaboration,
and various committee involvements.
